From demons on Mars to mutant turtles in Manhattan, these are the games to look out for this month for PS4, Xbox One and PC

May is usually the month where everything turns around for video games.

Whereas the start of the year has usually been dry for releases, May marks the start of the Summer season, bringing with it some of gaming's biggest names.

However, we gamers have actually been fortunate enough to see a fantastic first third of the year, with practically every month so far giving us some true gaming gems.

So, will the month of May be just as worthwhile for avid video gamers? Our writers Ryan Brown and JC Suttun have their say on their picks of the bunch.

DOOM has thrown me through loops since it was first announced. Having grown up with the original title, the series is something that means a lot to me, so I was originally excited to hear that Bethesda were rebooting the influential first-person-shooter title.

Then the gameplay footage was revealed and I initially felt let down, due to its dull colour palette and all-round dreariness. Thankfully, Bethesda stole back my excitement when they did something few big publishers do - they listened to feedback. The new DOOM game now has some beautifully vibrant colours mixed in with its darkened atmosphere, and it's looking gorgeous.

With a promising single player campaign and a rather fun multiplayer mode (if the recent beta is anything to go by), DOOM is shaping up to be one of the better first-person-shooters in recent years.
